Shall we open routes to the future?

The Vila do Conde Nautical Arts Centre is promoting the first Naval Carpentry course. This free training course, which starts this month, is being held in partnership with FOR-MAR – the Centre for Professional Training in Fisheries and the Sea.

Enrolment for the course is now underway. To do so, you need to send an email expressing your interest in taking part in the initiative to conde@for-mar.pt.

To whom is this training course aimed?

To all people – employed or unemployed – aged 18 or over and with a school qualification of sixth grade or above.

What kind of support is available?

Trainees can receive support for school materials and a food allowance.

What knowledge and skills does the programme provide?

Participants will be able to acquire all the skills they need to carry out construction, repair and maintenance work on wooden and related vessels, in accordance with the applicable standards, safety regulations and rules of good practice.

They will thus be able to professionalise themselves as Wooden Shipbuilding Operators.

How long does the training last?

It is expected to last 350 hours.

Where will it take place?

At the recently created Wooden Shipbuilding Training Centre, one of CdAN’s poles, located at Praça José Régio in Vila do Conde.

What is the added value of this course?

1. To create professional opportunities in a field of know-how that is recognised in Portugal and around the world.

2. To train new resources to give wood shipbuilding a future.

3. To provide trainees with the skills that will enable them not only to be wooden boat builders, but also to develop projects for other areas, from architecture to art, where naval carpentry has proven to have a unique capacity for designing works and creating solutions.

This is undoubtedly a value proposition. Shall we grab it?
